SEO Search engine optimization is based on target keywords. How to optimize the ranking of target SEO keywords?
Traditional search engine optimization based on keywords optimization is now challenged. Since several years ago, the search engine started to make use of artificial intelligence to understand and evaluate the inquiry put in by users. Meanwhile, with the popularization of speech input, complete sentences are more easily and accurately identified.
1. The search engine concerns users’ experience and search purposes
Search users’ experience is reflected from the click on Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Search users decide whether to click according to the meta title and meta description displayed in SERP. Therefore, the content of titles is very important to attract users to click on. It makes users feel that the content of webpage whether meet their own search purposes. This is the so-called “search intention”.
Search intention
We can’t just list several keywords using the traditional search engine optimization. Such an approach can’t deceive search engines anymore. The content of the webpage is to satisfy the users’ search intention. We take the search by putting in “facial mask” as an example, the intention of search users may be to find commodities, or services or suggestions. If the search user wants to purchase a certain commodity, the content of the title should highlight the advantages of this type of commodities you offer. For example:
“Korean facial mask, Brightening & Hydrating, latest skincare innovation from Korean”
We should stress the product is made in “Korean”, “brightening & hydrating”, “latest skincare innovation from Korean”, instead of:
“Best facial mask, skincare product, beauty & cosmetics online”
On the other hand, if the search user is looking for information to solve problems, we should highlight a definite solution to the problem. For example:
“3 simple ways to get a salon-like face clean up at home”
instead of the vague title:
“how to face clean up at home?”
As mentioned, page content should be made for the search intention. For the example of “facial mask”, we should target up to two SEO keywords in the title. If we target three or even more SEO keywords in the title, we will not accurately show the message or solution for what the search user want to know. Therefore, it might lower the search intention and might be impossible to attract more clicks on it.
2. The Importance of Click-through Rate (CTR)
One of the important factors of search ranking is the click-through rate. If the title is revised to satisfy more search keywords but lower the original click-through rate, it means the meta title is not optimized well.
Using the above-mentioned example:
“Best facial mask, skincare product, beauty & cosmetics online”,
Although someone will argue: “facial mask is also the skincare product, which is much more searchable than the facial mask, therefore in the search volume with skincare product ranking, even a few clicks may be more than that of facial mask. “ The fact is that “skincare product” is a general category which includes moisturizers, eye care, cleansers, exfoliators, facial mask and much more. While we search “skincare products”, the opportunity to list your title is nearly zero. Therefore, you will have wasted the meta title’s characters, lowered the original click-through rate and also the search ranking.
How does SEO carry out multi-keyword ranking optimization?
Is it possible to get a high search ranking for several search keywords at the same time? According to the statistics from Ahref’s SEO study & research: The top-ranking page can rank about 1,000 other related keywords. The key is the method whether it is correct.
1. Focus on high relevance and Synonym keywords
The key to achieving a good high search ranking for multiple keywords is that there is a high relevance among the search keywords. Under the same topic, it is good for using synonym keywords.
For example, “facial mask”, “face clean up”, “face mask online”, and more…
2. Using the Google Console to find out new target keywords
In the beginning, you shall aim at one or two search keywords for your page. After a period of time, when it has achieved high ranking and a certain of click traffic, we can use Google Console to find out some similar and high-impressions search terms that are not on high CTR and ranking.
First, for the new search Keywords selection, it should be as similar to the original search keywords as possible.
Second, there is a certain amount of traffic. It is because title and content revision may cause the loss of click traffic, it is only worthwhile if it has a certain amount of traffic.
3. Fine-tune the title and content to make good multiple Keyword Ranking
Only successful pages are eligible to compete for more search keywords. When the page is ranked in front of the search ranking results page for a certain keyword search with high click-through rate, it is good to fine-tune the title and content with on-the-page optimizations to compete for more search keyword rankings. For example, we could fine-tune the image’s Alt text, Alt tag, and mention the new target search keyword in the first paragraph.
Anyway, the premise is that the changes should not dramatically influence the SEO keywords that have achieved high rankings.
If you take into account what your target customers are looking for, try to provide the value and strengthen the keyword relevancy with on-the-page optimization, you will get a successful SEO campaign and good target keyword ranking.
